The Art of Fugue by J.S. Bach, a new instrumentation with electronic sounds, a performance as multichannal projection.

BACHdimensional – [the electronic art of fugue]

the actual live-project of Klangspiegel: a choreography consisting sound, light and dance, based of Johann Sebastian Bachs »Art of Fugue«, his last unfinished work.

The transformation in the contemporarye world of sounds clarifies the compositorial structure. The complex contrapunctical texture is demonstrated by significant sounds. For the forst time in the performance-history the single voices are presented as a multichannel projection. Light and dance are an enhancement of this spatiotemporal event.

Contrapunctus IX of Bachs »Art of Fugue« (2:45 min) [Zurück]

This performance of the »Art of Fugue« tries to illustrate the autonomy of the counterpoint through the electronic separation of the single voices and through the sonic modeling of the structures.

This way, the listener is placed right in the middle of the musical events.

Lichtkreuz (1990)

Light Cross – excerpt, 0:52 min (2,1 MB) – Video: Doris Elbe

Optical act for the eye, acoustical act for the ear. In the middle of the gentle fog of music, a square flows crosswise in itself.

The targeted detuning of single tones produces floating sounds which correspond to the light glow of the square.

Part of a video music from 1990, realised with an Amiga 1000 and Deluxe Paint as well as with Dr. T’s Keyboard Controlled Sequencer and a Yamaha DX7.

Die Glocken von St. Niklaaskerk

The Bells of St. Niklaaskerk – excerpt, 1:47 min (1,5 MB)

Composed 1990/91 after the poem »Sankt Niklaaskerk im Großstadtmeer« (St. Niklaaskerk in the Sea of the Metropolis) by Horst Friedrich Vorwerk. The bells of the mighty church seem to be echoed from a distance in one’s auditory canal and thus suggest new ear sounds.

Part of a music named »Worte – Bilder – Klänge« (Words – Pictures – Sounds) created as an accompaniment to pictures and animations by Doris Elbe and poems by Horst Friedrich Vorwerk.

Shaking (1992)

Sound installation – excerpt, 0:43 min (1,8 MB)

Based on samples of a »Chicken Shake« and wind chimes.

The sound events were alienated through numerous transpositions and filters. The sounds were selected and sequenced randomly.

The sound installation was realized with a Yamaha TX16W Sampler.

Stille und Aufbruch (1990)

Silence and Departure, an Incidence of Nature, 1:50 min (1,9 MB)

Experienced on a September morning in a forest at the rim of the Schönberg (Black forrest) near Freiburg i.Br.

Electronic and natural sounds were interwoven, interpenetrating them-selves to complete indistinguishableness.
